On the 24th of January 2016, Rotarian Tony Eigbokhan, the then President of Rotary Club of Victoria Garden City (2015-2016), having envision the dream to charter a new Rotary Club as part of his Legacy, led nine other friends to the inaugural meeting of the Interim Rotary Club of Abijo held at Hotel Savoye, Abijo.

In attendance on that day were Patrick Okpalefe, a Past President of the Rotary Club of Victoria Island East, Rotarian Steve Asuquo of the Rotary Club of Victoria Garden City and others from the sponsor Club, the Rotary Club of VGC.
